Johnny Moynihan first introduced the bouzouki (a traditional bowl-backed Greek instrument) to Irish music back in the 1970's. Donal Lunny of Planxty fame then cemented it's place in the tradition by designing and having made a bouzouki with an almost flat back. This has become known as the Irish Bouzouki or simply "Zouk" It has four pairs of unison strings usually tuned G,D,A,D from bass to treble although other tunings are commonly used. It delivers a very powerful driving rhythm sound for accompanying songs or tunes.
